Working Dad of the Year

Greg Stepien

Hard Working Dad Transforms His Career Prospects

Greg has been nominated for this award by the team in our Pitman Training Kerry centre.

Having worked in retail, starting as a shop assistant and progressing to store manager, Greg decided to take his career in a completely new direction. He felt that retail lacked progression opportunities and upon finding out he was to become a father for the first time, he wanted to find a career that gave his family more structure and stability. This is so he could plan ahead and find a career that also offered him the precious time he wanted with his new family.

Already knowing he enjoyed all aspects of accounts, Greg set his plan in place and aspired to become a fully qualified Accountant. Knowing he would need to learn new skills Greg embarked on his journey by signing up for an AAT Accounts Diploma.

When he started the course he continued to work full time. Nevertheless, Greg thrived on the challenge and was soon achieving Distinctions in his courses.

His hard work and determination paid dividends and mid-way through his training, he was offered an Accounts Assistant/Bookkeeper job, meaning he had successfully achieved his first goal of changing careers. A great achievement considering he hadn't fully completed the training.

Greg is now enjoying having a structured working week, allowing him to enjoy time with his newborn daughter, Gabriella.

Una who works in the Kerry training centre said "Greg is so friendly and we were so happy, yet sad to see him graduate last month. He was always up for a chat and his friendly smile would lighten up anyone's day."

We asked her why they felt Greg deserved to win this award and she said that "Greg was working full-time, helping his wife, and had a daughter all in the middle of completing his accounting diploma. He was so focused and determined to do well for his own career and family. Greg was also a friend to all staff and other students."

Greg continues to pursue his ambitions of becoming a fully qualified accountant and we're sure with the determination he has demonstrated already, he will succeed. We feel that Greg clearly shows a great deal of 'SuperAchievers' dedication in progressing his career to provide for his family, giving them a better life.
