Pitman Training Student of the Year

Ian Chandler

Dover Student Determined To Succeed

Ian has been nominated for this award by Paula Elliot, owner of the Pitman Training Dover centre.

Ian started with the Award in Bookkeeping and has then progressed to the L2 Certificate in Accounting. Paula has nominated him as she feels he has shown a clear commitment and dedication to changing his career.

Having left a career in teaching to pursue other opportunities, Ian is now a regular in the Dover training centre, attending twice a week. The team say that "Ian is totally focused on studying while he is here. He is approachable and helpful to others in the centre."

He has passed his AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and has now started payroll training. He has experienced setbacks during his training, having to retake one AAT exam but he met the challenge head on and scored 100% in the retake. Paula commented saying, "Ian has been focused on his goal from our first conversation. He has demonstrated a determination to succeed - exactly the sort of person that SuperAchievers recognises."

Around his studies, Ian is looking for finance work and has registered with local agencies who specialise in finance recruitment. He is a carer for his father and he has also started to take on volunteer work with coastal and wildlife project groups around the Dover area.

When we asked Paula why she felt Ian deserved to win this award, she said, "In my experience, Ian is not one of our typical profiles of a Pitman Training student. He is slightly older than our average student. He phoned the centre to enquire and has followed my advice to the letter. He has not quibbled about anything: exams, dedication or commitment. Ian has supported his peers and remained upbeat when they have left to start working." She continued,"I am committed to helping Ian into employment because he deserves to have his effort recognised and skills valued. His employment outcome will far outweigh the financial investment he has made in himself."

We believe Ian's determination to succeed showcases a true SuperAchiever.
